commonmarket

The Common Market’s original Plaza Midwood location.

The Common Market, the eclectic deli, general store and community gathering spot, will be opening its third and largest location near Cotswold in Spring.

The 6,500-square-foot space will be located at 4420 Monroe Road near the Oakhurst and Cotswold neighborhoods across from Commonwealth Avenue. The store will be known as Common Market OakWold to reflect its proximity to both neighborhoods.

The newest space will include the usual deli and retail oddities as well as coffee, beer, wine and prepared foods from its full kitchen.

A community meeting planned for Monday, Feb. 6, at Clayworks will collect ideas from local residents for other things people would like to see the market to offer.

There is also plans in the works for a fourth location on Tremont Avenue that will occupy 7,000 square feet of space to replace its former South End location, which was shuttered to become regional headquarters for Austin, Texas-based Dimensional Fund Advisors.

The new South End site’s opening is planned for early next summer.

A brewery, Thai restaurant and coffee house/pub are among the newest tenants added to the roster for the $2.45 million project under way in North Davidson.

The market parcel, which will span the two buildings located at 3701 and 3629 N. Davidson Street, is about 1.25 acres.

The entire project will encompass approximately 23,000 square feet of “industrial chic” space with original brick walls and barrel vaulted ceilings, according to a Charlotte Business Journal report.

In October, Hart’s Soda Shop will add a family-friendly drink option to NoDa when it opens its brick-and-mortar location in the heart of the Arts District, according to a recent report.

For more than a year, Hart’s has been whipping up tasty floats and sodas from its vintage VW Bus and popping up at food truck rallies and private events. Now, Kara and Greg Urquhart, the duo behind Hart’s have leased a space to plant roots in North Davidson.

The 908 E. 35th St. location, at the intersection of Whiting Avenue, is 700 square feet and fulfills the couple’s original dream of having a permanent location for them to support other local food sources in creating their own culinary concoctions. Hart’s inked a 3-year lease for the space.

The Urquhart’s, who use vanilla ice cream from Waxhaw Creamery in their floats, hope to support several more local businesses in their new location by offering coffee, baked goods and more ice cream flavors.

The trendy NoDa area of Charlotte caters to the eclectic and local with artists, local restaurants and, more recently, an uprising of local breweries. For Charlotteans with children, Hart’s will give them a destination in the neighborhood.

Not just a day-trip destination, NoDa has some fantastic real estate! Currently, there are 12 properties for sale in NoDa,  both renovated and unrenovated older homes.

This warehouse at 300 North College, the former site of Cosmos and Republic, is getting a makeover!

A management duo is bringing music, beer and family-style Italian dining to Uptown.

Tim Dolan and Jason Astephen are the faces behind 300 Bar Group, and they have big plans for the 300 block of North College Street.

The pair is set to open their beer and music hall Flight next month.

The casual, North Carolina-centric German-style beer hall will have 80 brews on tap from behind its 70-foot bar. The list will include Tarheel State brews, such as Asheville’s Wicked Weed.

Flight’s musical selections will be as diverse as its tap list. A house band and local groups will perform weekly, but nation performers will appear a few times a month. Open mic night will also be a staple of the schedule.

In addition to Flight, 300 Bar Group has plans to bring family-style Italian dining to the block.

The 8,000-square-foot space formerly occupied by Cosmos will be turned into a 1950s era as yet unnamed Italian restaurant. It will feature a high-end wine bar for wines by the glass or bottle.

300 Bar Group has leases on three spaces in the 300 North College warehouse location, which is being called Northside Station.

300 Bar Group’s goal is to rebrand the location with local restaurants and destinations that keep people eating, drinking and enjoying local fare to give back to the Queen City economy.
